Copper French Press here

▼▼▼▼

Who needs an excuse to make margaritas?! I’ve never had any trouble coming up with one, but if you really need a reason, today is Cinco de Mayo! I started making these a few years back and they were a hit with mis amigas, and are SO easy, so I decided to share the love here. They key is gauging the heat level of when infusing the tequila…I like it HOT, so keep all the seeds, and let it sit for about 24 hrs. The fun part of these is the straining method…a French press! The process of French pressing your coffee is super fun and we decided to apply that to another fun beverage…tequila. Enjoy these responsibly and ¡Salud!

Ingredients:

-Silver Tequila (we used Espolon)
-7 Cups Grapefruit Juice
-5 Large Jalapeños
-5 Limes (reserve one for garnish)
-1/3 Cup Honey
-1/3 Cup Filtered Water
-Margarita Salt

*Note: This process takes a couple of days…So plan your party accordingly!

Instructions:

To infuse the tequila: Wash and slice jalapeños, place half in French press. Pour half of the tequila over the jalapeños and cover with saran wrap, refrigerate remaining jalapeños. Leave mixture in French press on counter for at least 8 hours per batch…just remember the longer you let it set, the hotter it will get! When you are ready to strain tequila, place lid on French press and press down just like you would with coffee. Pour off tequila and place in freezer while you make the 2nd batch (we just used the original tequila bottle for storage).

To make the margaritas: Heat honey with water in a small sauce pot to create a simple syrup. Let cool. In a pitcher combine grapefruit juice, 2 1/2 cups of the tequila, and the juice of four limes. Stir together. Add in simple syrup and ice. Salt the rims of your favorite glasses and serve immediately.

Dusty rose, aptly named, beginning with the adjective “dusty” implying fade, dirt, weathering, vintage. A version of pink, airing on the side of blush, and a bit more subdued than it’s shiner counterpart, rosegold. The dusty rose color scheme encompasses rose quartz in its naturally occuring crystal form, an intrinsically feminine hue, that I am fully embracing for festival season. Its soft enough to treat as a neutral, but would add a lovely pop of color to any outfit.

Get studded. A set of symbolic studs to mix and match to suit your fancy. I’ve never been much of a dangly earring girl, preferring simple wear-everyday ear candy.  These all range in price from $2.99 to $885-for the awesome gold and diamond snake studs from eco-conscious designer Julia Failey. A DIY from a while back to organize them all here.

What’s in my bag (more like suitcase these days) the things that make living life easier, or at the very least, a little more organized. I can’t stop raving about this Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask, it’s a lifesaver in this arid high desert in which I reside, and routinely put it on every night right before I turn out the light. Oh lavender oil. Lavender essential oil has become the one product that is perpetually in my bag. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It’s versatile in that it can aid in both de-stressing and re-energizing, perfect for a quick pick me up, or acts as a calming agent in everyday stressful situations. I love to put it on my pillow before bed, and has become a nightly ritual (quite like the lip mask). As far as beauty goes, a small hair brush and bit of concealer go a long way in a need-to-get-ready-quick pinch. I have found that the Mason Pearson mini brush is a purse-perfect size, and this wonder working concealer can hide any signs of the debauchery that occurred the night before (these oversized Celine sunglasses do the same). On the more organizational side, a phone case that doubles as a business card carrier is perfect for networking and serves as constant reminder to restock your cards (genius, right?). Ear buds from Frends that come with their own nifty carrying case are great to have on hand to eliminate any unwanted noise in line at the grocery store, coffee shop, airport, etc… perfect to drown out that crying baby in aisle 17 (and they’re cute too). Plus I just appreciate any product that comes with its own carrying case. If not, gear ties come in handy. Flexible ties that will keep your cords, hair ties, life, kempt.

The sweet winds of change are here, and I can’t believe that we’re moving in less than two months. I’ve wanted to be in California for a while now, were finally going, and I feel like everything’s coming up roses. On that note, Valentines day is this week (were headed to Ojo Caliente for the night) and since we use so many rose products, I decided to compile them here. My favorites are anything Weleda… especially the rose spray deodorant which is aluminum-free. Rosewater is a must in my beauty repertoire, a simple way to unwind and de-stress, and doubles as a makeup setting spray. Im loving Roses de Chloe fragrance, (the original already amazing), a fresh twist on a classic. Nars lip pencils are perfect to keep in your purse, and impart a sheer hue of color, which can be added on to for a deeper tone. Try it layered with Minted Rose lip balm for a bit of shine. Tazo Rest tea is fragrant and floral with a blend of rose petals, valerian root and herbs, perfect for relaxing with a cup of tea before bed. This week is about love and companionship, budding romance, and possibilities. On this journey called life, enjoy the little things, the things that matter, the ones you love, and don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
