It’s no secret. I LOVE COFFEE (love is an understatement), It’s really difficult for me to put into words my affinity for said caffeinated beverage. I’m excited to announce a giveaway in conjunction with Mason Coffee this week! When I  find something I love I stick with it, and Mason Cold Brew Coffee has become a favorite of mine. This refreshing coffee is the brainchild of Anna and Elijah Senn, born and brewed right here in the city of Angels. Mason Cold Brew is served in it’s namesake jar, making it recyclable and totally reusable.  Whats in it you ask? Only three ingredients; filtered water, light roasted Ethiopian coffee beans, and mint leaves/vanilla bean/or lavender buds, for their subsequent flavored cold brews. The beauty of this individually packaged cold brew? It’s lack of sweetener. I’m super picky about my coffee preferring it with just a hint of sweet, and I find most bottled coffee unplatably sugary, with an egregious amount of additives. Mason is simple, and allows you to customize your own cup (or jar) of coffee, and I appreciate that. Served at the likes of; Ashland and Hill, Make Out Everyday Cafe, Simons Market on Rose and more. Make the switch and taste the difference here. Comment below to win a sample pack of all the Mason flavors delivered right to your doorstep! Three winners will be chosen and notified on May 2nd. Good Luck!

After the slew of shows we’ve been to lately (Blood Orange, Sbtrkt, Banks, Ivory Deville) I’ve realized there really is an art to concert going attire. Im not claiming to be an expert, but have been to enough to hold my own, and aim to share a few tips to make your experience easier. The main goal is comfort, body temperature control, easy access, and of course, style. The number one tip that I’ve found helpful is a small purse…messenger style. It sucks to be dancing around with a huge bag on your hip, and it’s not very considerate of your fellow show goers (I’m probably annoying enough being THAT GIRL who is dancing uncontrollably, hands over head for the entire night). This fringed Cleobella number does the trick, and the black leather totally overlaps into everday wear. While were on the subject of fringe, these suede Seychelles booties are comfortable enough to dance all night in, and at $150, they don’t break the bank. I’m loving a crop top layered over a body chain…thanks for that idea Bey. Add a 90’s inspired collar for an eclectic accessorized look. Pile on the rings, especially this set from House of Harlow, and to keep the pops of silver going finish with Nars metallic nail polish. Crimp-free hairties are a must for a ponytail option, plus they and add to wrist stacks when not in use. These python print ties that I found at Nordstrom are rad. As far as touchup essentials, go with what fits in your purse. A few key items like face refresher spray (try the mini size from MAC…they now have mini sized everything!!!), eyeliner, and the obligatory Sin-Min horchata lipspread (has a natural plumper which makes your lips full and soft) are minimal but keep you looking fresh.  When in doubt choose most anything with fringe or distressed detailing and you’ll be good to go.

Oh L.A., I probably spent a total of 10 hours on your freeways when I was there. But, your more admirable qualities include world class restaurants, featuring any type of cuisine you wish, amazing artistic and creative expression everywhere, and my new found love, KDay. Yes, a radio station that would make TuPac sit up in his grave(?), and a source of some weird kind of serenity on the highway.  I got to spend an afternoon with a friend on Abbot Kinney enjoying a couple of beverages, while visiting probably every retail establishment on the street. Intelligentsia coffee followed by a more hydrating coconut water from The Local 1205, were awesome (Im a beverag-oholic). Thanks to Anna for showing me that cool spot. Being the food-lover that I am, restaurants were something I was really looking forward to on this trip. Luckily many of my college friends are located in L.A., so I got to share a few memorable meals with them. A.O.C. a tapas style resturant that has been a staple in my Los Angeles restaurant repertoire (which has now moved to a new location), is sexy and sophisticated. The music selection kept the mood young and light, including tracks  by Tame Impala, Miike Snow, and some R+B classics. Dishes that stood out  the most were the romaine salad with harissa dressing, and tuna meatballs with marinara sauce, although catching up with girlfriends is what I savored the most. A final meal at Rustic Canyon, the sister restaurant of Huckleberry, was the icing on the cake. After taking a tour of their newlywed place, Caitlin and Dan called early, and they squeezed us in. So glad they could, because it was, lets just say, something to write home about. We ordered from the main menu, which was missing the famed burger that Dan was craving, so upon requesting it from our waitress, we were able to partake in the glorious dish. Five courses, two bottles of vino, and two desserts later, I was happy. Hopefully I will be seeing L.A. sooner than was previously anticipated…

Camp Friendly Brown Rice Pasta

IMG_6011 IMG_6016IMG_6026IMG_6027IMG_6033IMG_6041

▼▼▼▼

We went camping in beautiful Bandolier National Monument this week. It was great to get away on what would be my second camp trip in one week.  I planned the menu for breakfast lunch and dinner carefully, shopping for easy, short cook meals, that would be as enjoyable to eat as they were to make. Camp food is usually associated with unhealthy meals/sweets/beer etc, but theres no reason they cant be delicious as well as nutritious. My new favorite find is this brown rice pasta…its gluten free and it takes only 2 minutes of actual cook time!!! Yes, you bring water to a boil, add the pasta, and let cook for two minutes. Turn off the flame and let sit for 18 more minutes, and presto! You have a perfectly al dente pasta that you would never know wasn’t wheat.  Cooking this way is ideal for camping, where fuel is carefully rationed, and is a great way to be sustainable. This is the perfect camping meal, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

Tinkyada Brown Rice Spirals-one whole package
Cherry Tomatoes (I used local tomatoes from farmers in Alcalde)-2 cups
Feta (regional Tucumcari feta)-1 cup
Fresh Basil–3 tbsp
Kalamata Olives-1 cup
Garlic (also local)-3 toes
Olive Oil-1/4 cup

Directions:

Cook brown rice pasta as directed. Drain and let cool. While pasta is cooling slice tomatoes, olives, chiffonade basil, and dice garlic. Saute garlic in olive oil until fragrant and softened. Add garlic and oil, as well as tomatoes, olives, and lastly feta to pasta. Combine gently but throughly. Serve and hear people exclaim is just as good as regular pasta!

*Left overs are great for a hike the next day!!!

Kale Yeah!

Lace Crop Top-Free People, Sunglasses-Anthropologie

So its official. Kale is delicious to eat AND drink. This smoothie that we discovered at our local farmers market is insanely good. The only ingredients are kale, avocado, apple, lemon, and coconut water. Its perfectly sweet, and super creamy, thanks to the avocado, and healthy bc there is no added sugar/frozen yogurt etc. Its now tradition to make the Taos Green booth our last stop at the market.
