Ever notice that when you look good you feel good? Conversely, The same is true. When you feel good, you look good. It’s a healthy cycle that feels amazing when you’re in a good rhythm, but that’s easier said than done.  I’m always more motivated to get in the gym/run outside/do yoga (and such public exercises) when I’ve got gear that fits well, and looks cool. Naturally, I choose mostly black, because when investing in more expensive workout clothes, I like to think that the more basic, the more versatile they will be. Black leggings will go with everything, and are obviously more flattering. A neutral bra with a cute print is the same. I’m averse to the neon/reflective and totally nauseating workout clothes making a comeback, because the last thing I want to do is stick out like a traffic sign in the middle of the gym. If you’ve ever made the long walk from the cardio room through the weights to the locker room, you know your tight-ass pants can leave you feeling like, for lack of a better term, a piece of meat. I’m not trying to call attention to myself at the gym in LA, where that walk feels more like the last judgement…I’m keeping things on the DL. My last tip is that it’s important to purchase pieces that that translate from gym to everyday outings, and ones that can be used for other activities besides sports. In So-Cal, its completely appropriate to wear a cute pair of cut out leggings (shown above), with a nicer comfy tee and cute bralette, outside of the gym. Add an oversized tote that doubles as a grocery bag and you’re set. It’s comfy-chic, and looks effortless…because it was.

Midsummer Nights

Quite the eclectic playlist here, compiled of tracks I’ve been enjoying by the beach as of late. Starting out with some Latin flava courtesy of Quantic (P.S. anything from him is sure to get you moving), some true feel good old school with “Where I Wanna Be” from Shade Sheist, Nate Dogg, and Kurupt. I recently learned about The Internet from my co-worker Heidi-shout out girl…these guys rock. Had to add some Flume in since Im seeing him on Tuesday. New stuff from old favorites Sea Wolf, and Bahamas. The rest simply speak for themselves…a few tracks to accompany these remaining summer days.

Where I Wanna Be-Shade Sheist, Nate Dogg, Kurupt
Dontcha-The Internet
What You Need-Flume
Gold (Flume Re-work)-Chet Faker
Lucky I got What I Want-Jungle
Paradise Waiting-Vacationer
Tangerine Sky-Blackbird Blackbird
Bergamot Morning-Sea Wolf
Night Faces-Jessica Pratt
All the Time-Bahamas
Water No Get Enemy-Fela Kuti
Rather Be-Clean Bandit, Jess Glynne

Color Study:

dusty rose final1

Dusty Rose Croppy Tank-Judi Rosen // Foldover Crochet Beach Pant-Nightcap // Retouching Powder-Bobbi Brown // Shimmer Brick-Bobbi Brown // All Tied Up Nail Polish-Essie // Rosetone Booties-Rachel Comey // Cone Bracelet-Eddie Borgo // Lia Vault Crossbody Bag-Alexander Wang // Leather Wrap Bracelet-Sole Society // Lexington Watch-Michael Kors //  Petal Lip Treatment-Sugar // Hair Chalk-Bumble and bumble // Spanish Lace Pants-Nightcap

Dusty rose, aptly named, beginning with the adjective “dusty” implying fade, dirt, weathering, vintage. A version of pink, airing on the side of blush, and a bit more subdued than it’s shiner counterpart, rosegold. The dusty rose color scheme encompasses rose quartz in its naturally occuring crystal form, an intrinsically feminine hue, that I am fully embracing for festival season. Its soft enough to treat as a neutral, but would add a lovely pop of color to any outfit.

Baja, MX

baja 2 baja1

Vamanos a la playa, in Baja that is. For the next week, we will be posted up in this palapa house with one mission in mind…surf. We elected to rent a house on airbnb (I cant get within a mile of any resort at this point), and a van to drive to the beaches with the best swells. Hoping to stand up, maybe catch a few waves on this trip, and soak up the sun before winter is officially here.

Beach Jams Playlist

Beach jams can vary significantly depending on what type of mood you are in. For me, it’s usually one of two kinds, either a party on the beach/drink Mexican beer day, or a chill/read a book/drink Mexican beer day. This playlist is more on the chill side, with just a couple up beat songs thrown in (namely, the JT song) to keep things interesting. In general the songs on this playlist are nice background music, or if you choose, can be read into more deeply (i.e. the Wildlight song). In any case, you cant really go wrong with this playlist, it should appeal to most types in your beach clan!

1.The Pretty Things~She’s a Lover
2.Bombiino~Azamane Tiliade
4.Portugal. The Man~The Sun
5.Random Rab~Sunwater
6.MS MR~Fantasy
7.The Belle Game-River
8.Wildlight~Twirl Me
9.Justin Timberlake~Take Back the Night
10.Liars~The Exact Colour of Doubt

Beach Essentials

beach essentials final

1)Tanning Lotion-Maui Babe, 2)Watermelon-The Earth,  3)Sunglasses-Karen Walker 4)Sunscreen-Shiseido 5) Coconut Water 6) Speakers-iHome 7)Bikini-Mara Hoffman

I’ve been in LA for the past few days and long days at the beach require proper gear, so Ive compiled a few of my favorite beach going must-haves here. A HUGE towel, or blanket (preferably the latter) to provide refuge after a dip in the water, is obvious. The seasoned beach veteran knows that Maui Babe lotion trumps all. The smell, the feel, and the lasting effect are all proof that this is a sunny day essential. As far as snacks, something light and refreshing is what I crave, and slices of watermelon, and a coconut water keep me hydrated all day. Portable speakers to pump your fave tunes are also a must have. We took these $20 iHome speakers to Costa Rica with us and LOVED them. They fit in the palm of your hand, and are rechargeable. Dont be discouraged by the size of these little speakers, the sound is surprising. My favorite swimsuits are usually anything by Mara Hoffman, the prints are fun and different, and the fit is unmatched by any other designer that I’ve ever tried. The ”pow-wow” bikini shown here is it. Make sure you have face sunscreen, and an oversized pair of sunnies (like these amazing Karen Walker shades) and you’re good to go!
