Mules are Spring’s it shoe, half-bootie, half-heel, all awesome. A French word, “mule” describes a style of shoe that is backless and sometimes, but not always closed-toed. Mules are great transitional footwear that show off the ankle, while still reserving an option of a closed or open-toe, depending on the weather. 90’s are back in full swing with these Clueless inspired heeled open-toed beauties. They look rad (and Cher approved) paired with dresses or skirts, but I love them when styled with boyfriend denim, which usually needs a splash of femininity. *Note* These probably won’t help your freeway driving skills. Point-toed usually look a bit dressier to me, so for a day at the office or dinner date, these are your best bet. Closed-toed bootie mules are comfortable, and perfect for running around town paired with your fave skinny jeans, but can also be dressed up with a floral dress and leather jacket for a concert or dinner with friends.

Luxe or Less: Black Skirts

A black skirt, like the black bag, and leather jacket, is an essential part of the feminine wardrobe. Depending on the length and cut, a black skirt can be worn in most any occasion. Mini’s are a classic, but the shoe can completely change the feel of the piece. Dawn a mule for a refined look, or an OTK boot for a younger edgier vibe (like this). Appropriately named, this “Vampire” leather mini from Friend of Mine showcases an angular front cut, resembling a fang. I can dig it. Absolutely in love with anything by the Stone Cold Fox ladies, and had been eyeing the Alejandro skirt for months, so when I saw this replica I had to have it. An m-slit maxi with reverse zippers on each thigh, easy to dress up or down, this purchase was a no brainer (look for it in next weeks style post). A little lace goes a long way (especially on the hem of a pencil skirt),  reminiscent of lingerie, but still office appropriate.

Luxe or Less:The Black Bag

Faux Leather Envelope Clutch-Danielle // Antigonia Envelope Clutch-Givenchy // Vintage Leather bucket Bag-Motel // Diego Bucket Bag-Alexander Wang // Boho Fringed Shoulder Bag-LP Blue // Daisy Leather Fringe Crossbody-Linea Pelle

▼▼▼▼

Ultimate must-have accessory…the black bag. Every woman needs one, or two.  From nights out, to everyday errands, to the occasional music festival, an envelope/bucket/ crossbody, will more than cover all of the bases. Above I’ve listed a few of my favorite picks. Usually on Luxe vs. Less, you are paying the price difference for two main things-quality and material. In this case, you don’t have to compromise everything. Both bucket bags listed are made from real leather, and even though I’ve been lusting for the Diego bag (you are paying for detail and designer name), will save $775 by going with the Motel option. Both fringe bags are actually made by the same designer, Linea Pelle. She has created a lower price point line for Nordstrom (LP Blue) so you know that even though it may not be leather, the craftsmanship and quality are awesome. I can’t tell the difference…can you?

Rings

Triangle Rings: HysteriCo vs. Loren Stewart, Talon Rings: HystericCo vs. Pamela Love

Double Skull Rings: HysteriCo vs. Alexander McQueen

I love having a few key pieces of jewelry that I wear everyday. My two dainty gold stacking rings, and bangle that I never take off, are my favorite. When trends change so quickly, its nice to find less expensive options to avoid overpaying on a piece that you wont be wearing a year from now. This double skull ring is the perfect example. I love McQueen, but $155 for a ring that is gold filled is a little ridiculous. I found a few pieces from this little store on Etsy called Hysterico that offer trendy rings at great price points.

Patterned Sweaters

Floral Sweaters: Sheinside vs. Wildfox, Tribal Sweaters: Sheinside vs. Cynthia Vincent

Colorblock Sweaters: Sheinside vs. Joseph

I had been lusting over this Joseph knit sweater for a while, but $545 is a hefty price to pay for something that isn’t true outerwear. I found a great substitute (that I like even better) after a little searching. I love a good challenge in this arena, and I found a lot of sweaters (on this site) similar to spendy ones that I have had my eye on for fall. Its fun mixing luxe with less, and even better finding pieces at one tenth of the intended item’s price.
