I’ve never been a fan of the “no white after Labor Day” rule, which doesn’t even apply anymore, and love a crisp pop of white in the form of an accessory any time of the year. We’re headed to Colorado this weekend, and snow is on the forecast so I’ve complied a list of my fave winter white accessories. Above are a few musts (and a couple lusts…McQueen bag I’m looking at you) that are perfect travel companions. This razor bracelet is on my list, and coming in at $88, is an affordable McQueen accessory in contrast to aforementioned bucket bag. RGB’s nail lacquers are formaldehyde, toluene, and dbp, free and is quite possibly the easiest accessory change-up you can make. Nirvana White perfume by Elizabeth and James has hints of peony, muguet, and musk, and is understated but still fragrant. I love carrying the rollerball in my purse (it’s portable and meets TSA guidelines), but if you prefer no liquid, a solid perfume is also available. Good headphones are completely necessary for waiting at your gate, as well as blocking out the screaming baby in aisle 6. I love these Frends headphones bc they are noise blocking even if you don’t want to listen to music (perfect for napping). Mophie Juice Pack phone case doubles your phone’s battery life, and is great especially if you cant find anywhere in the terminal to plug in your phone. A mini brush (Mason Pearson the best), good pen (Poppin gel pen-also amazing), and a small pouch by Delfonics to keep your odds and ends organized are also helpful.

Translucent, nunaces of aqua, seafoam, ocean. I’ve heard both “pool-green” and “pool-blue” but when diving in, blue is the shade that ultimately comes to mind. Pool blue is an interesting arena of color because it is inherently, always-changing. Reflection of light on undulating water causes hundreds of tonal shifts per minute… you never really know where the color is headed. A natural gradation which is art in itself.

Dusty rose, aptly named, beginning with the adjective “dusty” implying fade, dirt, weathering, vintage. A version of pink, airing on the side of blush, and a bit more subdued than it’s shiner counterpart, rosegold. The dusty rose color scheme encompasses rose quartz in its naturally occuring crystal form, an intrinsically feminine hue, that I am fully embracing for festival season. Its soft enough to treat as a neutral, but would add a lovely pop of color to any outfit.

Color Study: Radiant Orchid

What is more appropriate for a color study, than newly released color of the year from Pantone, “Radiant Orchid.” What is Pantone? you ask, well they are the self proclaimed experts on the measurement of color. Pantone is known for inventing the PMS- Pantone Matching System, which uses numerical coding for recognizing color. Pantone describes 2014’s color as “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” Honestly, it seems a little dramatic to me, but who am I to judge a color. Maybe it’s the fact that pastels are used with frugality in my wardrobe, only surfacing in traces (usually in an accessory), but Im having real trouble figuring out the actual color. A blend of lilac/lavender/rose magenta, but even the products listed on the Pantone web page don’t match. As of now it seems that radiant orchid, should have been 2013’s color of the year, seeing as lilac locks, lips, and confections were popping up all over my social media feed (heck I even dyed my tips this color). Color of the year? Or, color of last year? You decide. The new year is fast approaching, and maybe I should resolve to add new color influence to my closet, but why mess with a good thing? I think I’ll stick to the darker hues for now.

There’s not much that’s sexier than a deep midnight blue. The tonal navy is both mysterious and simple, as it is inherently neutral. Play up its versatility and pair with prints, and bright colors, or layer with similar ink tones for a more stark appearance. Nar’s Fall 2013 palette includes this sultry matte shadow thats all sophistication, and none of the brash 80’s blue. Wet and use with a thin brush for liner, or blend into your crease for a smoky blue night look. No matter what vehicle you choose, wearing this classic color is never a bad idea.

When I think of autumnal hues, rich deep colors come to mind.  Oxblood is one of those earthy colors that I closely associate with fall, and is similar in shade to burgundy, which is reminiscent of wine of course. In the fall, our general choice of a crisp white turns to a warm rich red, the Le Creuset is pulled out in anticipation of warm slow cooked meals, and our summery locks are traded in for a darker shade. Autumn is maybe the most apparent months of change, in general we become more reticent.  Whether its a dark red accessory, or wine stained lip, the color of the changing foliage is undeniably represented in our style.

Kermit the frog once said, “Its not that easy being green,”  and even though I love that little tune, I have to kindly disagree.   There are so many facets of the color, teal, sea, kelly, forest, army, emerald, celedon, olive etc.  Green is such a natural earthy hue that its hard not to recognize it in the fields, foliage, signs of growth, and call it divine. If I had to choose, green would be my answer to the age old favorite color question. Military green seemed to be last falls “it” color, but this season were seeing more and more of this beautiful bottle green. Bottle green is that in between of forest and emerald green, likened to its vintage green bottle counterparts. Im loving colored leather, and this Muubaa “bottle green” colored jacket is such a beautiful shade, it has inspired me to search for other similarly colored pieces. This shade adds interest to any outfit, but it would’t be a stretch to say a jacket, or clutch, this color would be a forever classic piece.
