What is more appropriate for a color study, than newly released color of the year from Pantone, “Radiant Orchid.” What is Pantone? you ask, well they are the self proclaimed experts on the measurement of color. Pantone is known for inventing the PMS- Pantone Matching System, which uses numerical coding for recognizing color. Pantone describes 2014’s color as “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.” Honestly, it seems a little dramatic to me, but who am I to judge a color. Maybe it’s the fact that pastels are used with frugality in my wardrobe, only surfacing in traces (usually in an accessory), but Im having real trouble figuring out the actual color. A blend of lilac/lavender/rose magenta, but even the products listed on the Pantone web page don’t match. As of now it seems that radiant orchid, should have been 2013’s color of the year, seeing as lilac locks, lips, and confections were popping up all over my social media feed (heck I even dyed my tips this color). Color of the year? Or, color of last year? You decide. The new year is fast approaching, and maybe I should resolve to add new color influence to my closet, but why mess with a good thing? I think I’ll stick to the darker hues for now.
